One Day Workshops

Get Away and Quilt Retreats

Teaching is the best part of quilting.  I have the opportunity to plant the seeds of all my ideas, to see new quilts grow in someone else's patchwork garden.

Here are the different one day workshops that I teach.  Most of the workshops are taught in a six hour minimum day.  These same workshops can also be taught in more depth at a quilting retreat or seminar.  ALL of my patterns can be taught as workshops.  Other workshops that I teach are more complex and better suited to a retreat venue.

Most workshops require some prior fabric and/or sewing preparation by the participants, so that time spent in the workshop is fruitful and productive.  Minimal materials fees are for my patterns or handouts.  All of the patterns include a color photograph.

Bargello Twist

It's all about color and value!  This design was inspired by the Bargello Needlepoint stitch worked on canvas with wool.  The same effect can be achieved in fabric.  Value and color placement cause the strips to twist and turn like ribbons blowing in the wind.  A pattern is available for this design.

To see results from a workshop, go to the Gallery.

      Intermediate to advanced quilters
      Sewing machine required.
Materials fee: $5.00 for the pattern.

Beyond Bargello Twist

Once more it's all about color and value!  Bargello broken down into blocks.  An easy way to learn the concept in small units and how to develop your own designs.  Make it any size, from placemats to bed-size quilts, using the same technique, but they will all be different!

Blended Triangles

This block may have another name, but I am not aware of what it is.  It is found within many traditional blocks.  My quick piecing technique for making this block is taught in this workshop.  This block is also easily paper pieced and the students learn how to paper piece with strips and squares.

This block lends itself to a myriad of design possibilities.  Go to the Gallery and scroll down to see other versions.  A fabric exchange is also part of the workshop.  A pattern is available for this design.

      All levels of expertise.
      Sewing machine required.
Materials fee: $5.00 for the pattern.

Blossom Time

This quilt top is easier to make than it looks.  The whole piece is made from strips, squares and rectangles.  Not a single triangle is cut, not even for the border.  What is the secret?  You have to take the class to find out!  See a king size version in the Gallery as well as the results of a workshop.  A pattern, shown in another color way, is available for this design.

Materials fee: $5.00 for the pattern.

Flowers and Stars

Or is it stars and flowers?  Which do you want to make?  The same quick piecing technique makes BOTH, and can readily be used for other blocks.

Several other quick techniques are taught, one of which is for quick pieced rectangles!  Just a few tulips or stars will be made, but enough for a beautiful wallhanging.  Many triangles are seen, but no individually cut triangles are made!

The point is to learn something NEW!

Mountain Mystery

Everyone loves a mystery!  This was our mystery challenge for the Tehachapi Mountain Quilter's Guild, 40 members participated and loved every twist and turn I presented to them.  Several quick piecing techniques make the clues to put together this intriguing quilt.  During the workshop four blocks and the borders will be made, enough for a small wall hanging or tablerunner, but instructions are provided to make NINE sizes, from table runner to a king size quilt, all with the same blocks and border, just more of the same!  Lots of fun, especially since these techniques can be used in other quilting projects.   Also available as a CD PATTERN.  See the several variations in the GALLERY.

      All levels of expertise.
      Sewing machine required.
Materials fee: $5.00 for the pattern.

Pick a Peck Applique

During this workshop, students learn various qpplique techniques while making a fruit sampler, that includes apples and cherries.  Freezer paper, needle under, reverse applique, skinny-stems, perfect circles and more techniques are taught.  Some quick piecing techniques are demonstrated.  A pattern is available for this design.

      All levels of expertise.
      Sewing machine required.
Materials fee: $5.00 for the pattern.

Sewfasst® Patching

Never waste fabric with these quick strip piecing techniques.  Students save time and end up with Bonus Patches.  Samples of square diamonds, flying geese and other patches are made.  These techniques can be used in many quilt blocks.  There is no project, process is emphasized.  However, during the workshop students make enough patches for a small quilt top, placemats or tablerunner.  For more advanced techniques see Take Sewfasst® to the Next Level under Quilt Retreats.
