In the pattern descriptions, the patterns are rated as to difficulty:

Two Button Intermediate:
More involved construction techniques, but relatively easy. Pattern or block has more piecing and may require some knowledge of applique.

Three Button Challenging:
Pattern or block has complicated construction and may have some applique techniques. Worth the extra effort!

Flip-Flap Purse

Intermediate

      Small purse, big volume--large purse, bigger volume!  Had so much fun making these, that I added a mini purse to the pattern, which did not make it into the photo.  The three sizes are large 9"x8", small 7"x8", and mini 6"x6".

      All have three zip pockets, to keep the important stuff safe.  The pockets in the large or small purse should be large enough for your regular Kindle or Nook.  Even though the purses "look" soft, they are designed have body.

      Yes, you will be sewing in zippers, but the directions make it really easy and straight forward, you don't even need a zipper foot!  The flap has been left plain, but you could add some nifty design to it, if you wished.

      The purses are designed with a cross-body strap, easier on the shoulders and leaves hands free for shopping!

Tissue Box Cover

Intermediate

Make it square or rectangular, plain or fancy. Great gift item. These box covers can be embellished with machine embroidery or fusible designs. Several variations can be made, change with the seasons or match your decor for every room in the house.

Paper pieced designs and quick piecing directions are included for four different miniature quilt blocks. The block designs are optional, because if you use an interesting fabric or one with a large design, the blocks are superfluous and assembly will be even quicker!

Spool Pincushion Chatelaine

      The pincushion utilizes an old wooden spool for the center.  You are probably asking, "What is a chatelaine?"  The dictionary gives two definitions, "mistress of a country estate or castle" and "a clasp or chain hung from a woman's belt to hold keys or small articles."  Sometimes the term was used for "keeper of the keys."  Today we hang a chatelaine around our necks to keep sewing tools handy.

      Scraps of striped or plaid fabric are perfect for these unusual pincushions.  Attach a small one to the ribbon woven chain of rings or make a large one to set by your sewing machine.  Directions are included for making a strip or checkerboard patchwork designs.  These require slightly more fabric.

      Directions are also included to make a small bag to hold thimbles and/or a spool of thread.  The hard to find button form is included, as well as a small antique wooden spool.  Since there are many different sizes of wooden spools, the pattern is designed for four sizes.  Choose the size closest to your spool.

Elegant Victorian Box

Challenging

This padded hexagonal box has an unusual closure, that comes as a kit. Use it for sewing, jewelry, or other special treasures. It was illustrated in an 1867 Godey's Lady's Book. It is a fun and popular class of mine at Quiltuniversity.com.

The kit includes the pattern for three sizes, 6", 8" and 10" and the precut cardboard pieces for the 10" size, which can be cut to fit for the smaller sizes. You provide the fabric, batting, lace, ribbon and creativity.
